Shimla, Sept. 22 -- A pair of Royal Bengal tigers is the newest addition to the mini zoo at Shri Renukaji in Sirmaur after the first-ever transfer of the big cats to Himachal Pradesh from the Gorewada Rescue Centre in Nagpur was completed on Sunday afternoon. The zoo's last lion died in 2015. The two animals - a two-and-a-half-year-old tigress and a five-year-old tiger - were rescued from different areas of Maharashtra where human-animal conflicts had been reported. Given their tendency to become ferocious, they have been kept in separate enclosures spread across six hectares and will be put together once they become familiar with each other. The tiger pair covered 1,900 km under the supervision of a seven-member team led by a deputy conservator of forests over 41-43 hours.
