Police file FIR after forced conversion bid allegations by Udhampur woman
JAMMU, May 14 -- The police said that they have registered an FIR under various sections, including SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, amid allegations by a woman and her two young daughters of being coerced into a particular religion in Sambhal village of Udhampur district.
The woman, mother of two daughters, alleged that some people of a particular community were coercing them to convert their religion.
One of her daughters alleged that they were being forced to convert and that one of the men from the community even tried to abduct her in an auto-rickshaw.
"We feel scared. We thrice lodged complaints with the police and this is the fourth time we have approached them with a plea to save us," she said.
The Udhampur Police stated that FIR No. 175/2026 dated April 26 has been registered at Udhampur police station on the basis of a written complaint submitted by the complainant, alleging offences under sections 351, 352, 137(2), 62 of BNS and 3(1)(r), 3(1)(s), 3(1)(za)(A) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, including allegations of criminal intimidation, abuse, assault and attempted kidnapping.
"The matter is under investigation by a gazetted officer as per law," it added....
