Srinagar, Nov. 2 -- Chief cleric of Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Sunday said that he was placed under house detention, allegedly to prevent him from delivering a scheduled religious sermon at Masjid Mehboob-ul-Alam (RA), Zoonimar, Srinagar. He alleged that he was being punished for quoting the recently published International Crisis Group report on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir at Jama Masjid on Friday. Expressing disappointment over the restrictions, Mirwaiz, in a post on X, said: "Put under house detention again today ahead of a scheduled religious sermon at Masjid Mehboob-ul-Alam (RA), Zoonimar.
