Srinagar, May 27 -- Chief minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday visited the family of the 12-year-old girl who was brutally murdered in Budgam and said that the case will be taken to its logical conclusion. The minor girl, who had gone missing on Saturday, was found dead in a nearby field on Sunday morning. The incident triggered widespread shock across the area. The police on Monday arrested an accused in the case. Accompanied by local legislator Aga Muntazir Mehdi, the chief minister expressed profound grief over the incident and prayed for strength and patience for the bereaved family in their hour of sorrow. The chief minister said the incident had shaken the conscience of society and asserted that such elements have no place in civilised society. "The government will ensure that the case is taken to its logical conclusion and that the perpetrator of this heinous crime is awarded exemplary punishment in accordance with the law," Abdullah said. The police on Tuesday identified the accused as Mudasir Ahmad Mir.
