minister flags off regulatory affairs centre at IIT-Roorkee
Roorkee, May 9 -- Union power minister Manohar Lal on Friday inaugurated the Centre for Regulatory Affairs at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, an initiative aimed at strengthening India's regulatory framework in the power sector.
The centre has been established as a joint initiative of the Forum of Regulators and IIT Roorkee. The Forum of Regulators is a statutory body that brings together central and state electricity regulators to coordinate and improve regulatory practices across the power sector.
Speaking at the inauguration, Manohar Lal said the Centre is expected to strengthen the regulatory architecture of India's power sector and make it more resilient, transparent and efficient while addressing emerging challenges such as rising electricity demand, integration of renewable energy and expansion of power markets. Earlier, a similar centre of excellence had been set up with Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission and Grid Controller of India Limited to promote research and capacity building in the sector....
