Shimla, May 19 -- The state government is planning to establish a Skill Academy and a Digital University, technical education minister Rajesh Dharmani said on Monday as he hailed trainees of ITI-Mandi for resolving the street lighting issues in the Mandi Municipal Corporation area. Under a pact between the MC and the ITI, 496 street lights were installed in a phased manner, improving the street lighting system and addressing a long-pending issue for the local public, he said while chairing a review meeting of the technical education department. Emphasising environmentally sustainable urban development, he said technical colleges with student participation, can prepare regional-level action plans for districts such as Shimla, Kangra and Kullu to strengthen regional planning and improve students' professional competence. Technical institutions are being graded to improve quality standards. He directed the Himachal Pradesh Technical Education Board to work towards conducting online examinations for recruitment competitions. "The primary objective of technical education and vocational training is to empower youth to become job creators rather than job seekers," he added.
