HP's first 'school of sports' opens in Shimla district
Shimla, Aug. 15 -- Education minister Rohit Thakur inaugurated the Thakur Ramlal Girls' School of Sports in Jubbal on Friday. He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of an additional building for this sports institute. The construction is estimated to cost Rs.2.78 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Thakur said that this institute would play a pivotal role in promoting sports in Jubbal and providing new opportunities to the youth. He said that this is the state's first sports institute where women students are being provided with national-standard sports facilities.
The minister said that the state government is working to strengthen sports infrastructure and provide better opportunities for the youth.
He said that seven sports disciplines, including volleyball, have been introduced at the Thakur Ramlal Government Girls' Sports School, Jubbal. To ensure excellent management and operational efficiency at the sports hostel, 32 new posts have been sanctioned for the school.
Additionally, equipment worth Rs.20 lakh has been provided for the students, and funds amounting to Rs.72 lakh will soon be released for further equipment. He said that there are a total of 11 sports institutions across the state; the Girls' Sports School in Jubbal is the largest among them and will now be known as the state's first 'School of Sports.'
Notably, six students from this hostel have been selected for the Indian girls' volleyball team for the World School Volleyball Championship 2026, scheduled to be held in China.htc...
