Gupta arrives in HP, to take oath as guv today
Shimla, March 10 -- Governor (designate) Kavinder Gupta arrived in Shimla on Monday. He stressed on working for the welfare and progress of Himachal Pradesh by taking all sections of society along.
"We will move forward collectively for the betterment of Himachal. Perhaps I am the first person to receive such a promotion within seven months. Serving as governor is both a great responsibility and a challenge, and I will strive to fulfil it with dedication," said Gupta, who will take oath as 30th governor of Himachal on Tuesday morning.
Gupta, lieutenant governor of the Union territory of Ladakh, was appointed as the Himachal Pradesh governor on March 5, in a major reshuffle.
Gupta and his wife Bindu Gupta were accorded a warm and enthusiastic reception on their arrival in Shimla.
Chief minister (CM) Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Himachal Pradesh assembly speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, former CM and leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, along with members of the state cabinet and senior officers welcomed the governor (designate) at Lok Bhavan.
He replaces Shiv Pratap Shukla, who has been made the governor of Telangana. Shukla was accorded a warm send-off by CM Sukhu at Lok Bhawan, earlier on Monday .
On the occasion, Shukla was presented a ceremonial Guard of Honour as a mark of respect and recognition of his service to the State....
