Shimla, Aug. 28 -- Four cases of H1N1 (swine flu) have been detected at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, Kangra. The patients include two babies, aged seven months and one year, from Kangra district, and two men, aged 72 and 85, from Chamba district. All four had been brought to the hospital after developing cold, cough and fever. Swine flu is a respiratory infection caused by the influenza A (H1N1) virus. It spreads mainly through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. Following confirmation of the infection, the patients were shifted from the general ward to separate facilities as a precautionary measure. A total of eight samples were tested at the medical college, of which four tested positive. Kangra chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Omesh Kumar Bharati said an advisory had been issued to health institutions to identify people with flu-like symptoms and admit suspected cases to hospitals for assessment and testing.
