Denying permission to hold condolence meet: AIP flays authorities
Srinagar, July 10 -- Awami Ittehaad Party's (AIP) senior leader and Langate MLA Sheikh Khursheed condemned theauthorities for denying permission to the party to hold condolence meetings across Kashmir to pay tributes to Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, on Thursday, terming the decision deeply unfortunate and insensitive to the sentiments of the people.
Sheikh Khursheed said the programmes were planned as peaceful condolence gatherings to offer prayers and pay homage to a revered religious leader, with meetings scheduled across Kashmir.
He further said that the meetings were meant solely to express grief and solidarity in a peaceful manner.
Expressing concern over what he described as a "double standard", Sheikh Khursheed said that it was difficult to understand how, on onehand, political leaders are being permitted to travel to Tehran to offer condolences, while on the other hand, AIP is being denied permission to hold peaceful condolence meetings within Jammu and Kashmir....
