BJP, Mirwaiz express concern over loss of lives in PoK
Srinagar, July 16 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Mirwaiz Uamr Farooq, chief priest of Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, have expressed concern over the loss of lives during unrest in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
While the J&K unit of BJP said that India can't remain indifferent to the suffering of the people living in the occupied territory, Mirwaiz urged governments in Pakistan and PoK to prioritise dialogue and resolve differences through consultation rather than confrontation with respect for human rights.
BJP's J&K spokespersons Manzoor Bhat and Danish Bhat voiced grave concern over the "worsening humanitarian situation" in PoK, describing the reported developments as deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
The spokespersons stated that credible reports emerging from PoK indicate a sustained pattern of repression against civilians demanding their fundamental civil, political and economic rights. They said that over 150 people have reportedly lost their lives during protests, while hundreds have sustained injuries or have been arbitrarily detained.
"Disturbing accounts of the use of excessive force against peaceful protesters, including women and children, reflect a serious deterioration of the human rights situation in the region," they said.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Mohammad Umar Farooq, in a post on X, expressed deep sorrow and pain over reports of the loss of civilian lives and police personnel in the continuing unrest especially in Rawalakot and Poonch on the other side of LoC. "I am also concerned by the ongoing discussions regarding representation and the constitutional and political status of the large number of Kashmiri State Subjects residing in Pakistan. Questions touching upon identity, representation and political rights require sensitivity, dialogue and broad public confidence," Mirwaiz said....
