4 killed, 1 hurt in Chamba after car plunges into gorge
Dharamshala, June 28 -- Four people were killed and another was injured after their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a gorge and crashed on the stones in Himachal's Chamba district on Saturday, police said.
The mishap occurred on the Urai-Samra road in Bharmour region of Chamba. While three persons died on the spot, another one succumbed to injuries later. The deceased have been identified as Ravikant (32), Lata Devi (40), Chatro Devi (70) and Basehro Devi (72) - all residents of Bharmour.
Locals immediately informed the police and administration about the accident, following which a rescue team rushed to the scene. Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed grief over the loss of lives in the incident.
He said that the state government stands firmly with affected families during this difficult time and asked the local administration to provide all possible assistance to the aggrieved families.
"Police teams were rushed to the accident site as soon as information was received. A relief and rescue operation was carried out immediately. A post-mortem of the deceased was carried out. A case has been registered in Bharmour police station. The exact cause of the accident is being ascertained," a senior police official said....
