Shimla, Aug. 1 -- A permanent 120-foot-long Bailey bridge constructed over Jahalma Nallah on the Sansari Nallah-Killar-Thirot-Tandi road was formally inaugurated on Friday. Lahaul-Spiti deputy commissioner Kiran Bhadana dedicated the bridge-built at a cost of approximately Rs.2.5 crore-to the public and flagged off vehicle movement across it. For now, traffic has been opened for light vehicles on technical grounds, while the movement of heavy vehicles will start in about a week. On this occasion, Bhadana said that the previous bridge was washed away by severe flash floods in Jahalma Nullah on May 26. Consequently, local residents, tourists, and especially the region's farmers and horticulturists had been facing immense difficulties in transporting their produce to markets on time. With the construction of the new bridge, the region's transport connectivity is restored, and the time required to transport agricultural and horticultural produce to the market will be significantly reduced....
