Dharamshala, July 28 -- With weather activity likely to intensify in Himachal Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shimla, has sounded an orange alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Bilaspurand Sirmaur districts on July 28. A yellow alert of heavy rainfall in Mandi, Shimla and Solan districts has also been issued. IMD officials on Monday said that heavy showers are expected to continue in the state till August 2. For July 29, the IMD has sounded an orange alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Sirmaur district only, however, a same alert has been sounded in Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur districts on July 30. Several other districts will be under a yellow alert of heavy rainfall during this period. The weather office has sounded an orange alert of heavy to very rainfall on July 31 in five districts: Una, Bilaspur, Chamba, Kangra and Shimla districts. During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain at few places and heavy rain at isolated places was observed over the state. The highest rainfall of 11 cm was recorded in Kandaghat, followed by Nalagarh (5 cm), Rajgarh (4 cm), Sangraha (4 cm), Sarahan (3 cm),Jogindarnagar (3 cm), Shimla (2 cm), Kufri (1 cm), Saloni (1 cm) and Rampur Bushar(1 cm). According to authorities, as many as 108 roads remained blocked across Himachal on Monday, with 39 such roads in Mandi district alone, followed by 33 in Kullu district. While 11 roads remained blocked in Shimla district, 9 were blocked in Sirmaur district and 5 in Kangra district. Moreover, 38 water supply schemes remained disrupted in the state. National Highway-5, connecting Shimla to Kinnaur, has been restored after approximately 11 hours. National Highway 5, also known as the Old Hindustan-Tibet road connecting Kalka to Kinnaur, was blocked after rains caused a landslide near Jeori. The public works department deployed machinery to the site this morning. Clearing the debris proved challenging as rocks kept falling from the hillside. The highway was eventually restored....
