Will expand Rajasthani language from next academic yr: Raj to SC
BIKANER, Oct. 7 -- Rajasthan will expand its ongoing pilot for teaching in Rajasthani language forms from next academic year, the state told Supreme Court on Monday.
Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati told a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Augustine George Masih that further steps were being taken and policies were being framed to carry forward the directions issued by the court on May 12, with implementation to be expanded from next academic year.
She said 100 schools each in Dungarpur and Sirohi had been identified for imparting education to Classes I and II in Wagadi and Garasia, described before the court as local dialects of the Rajasthani language.
The SC, after perusing Rajasthan's September 28 status report, listed the matter for February 8, 2027 and allowed the state to file a further status report by then. The petitioners were also given liberty to submit suggestions. Rajasthan had sought six months to complete the remaining policy exercise. Its report said the state was still examining linguistic data, teaching material, implementation in private schools and the progression of mother-tongue instruction to higher classes.
The Supreme Court's latest order does not grant the six-month request; instead, it seeks a further status report by February 8, 2027.
In its status report, the Rajasthan government had said that the Rajasthan State Council of Educational Research and Training (RSCERT), Udaipur, had conducted linguistic mapping covering about 6.43 lakh Class I students and their teachers across all districts. The exercise identified regional forms including Wagdi, Garasia, Mewari, Marwari, Braj, Mewati, Shekhawati, Hadoti and Dhundhari.
The state said teaching-learning material was being developed for 23 additional districts for proposed use from the next academic session. It also said Rajasthani literature is currently available as an optional subject in Classes XI and XII....
