Jaipur, Aug. 28 -- Rajasthan Police's Special Operations Group (SOG) has arrested a university vice-chancellor and two other officials in connection with a fake and allegedly backdated B.P.Ed. degree used to secure a government job through the Physical Trainer Recruitment Exam-2022. The SOG has arrested Mukesh Tiwari, vice-chancellor of Shri Sai University of Technology and Medical Sciences in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, along with the university's controller of examinations, Sanjay Rathore, and computer operator Anand Sharma over the irregularities. The arrests were made on August 24 as part of the government's zero-tolerance policy against cheating and examination fraud. The three accused were produced before a court and remanded to police custody. According to ADGP Vishal Bansal, the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) conducted the Physical Trainer Recruitment Exam on December 25, 2022. Bharmal Ram, a resident of Dhanta village in Sanchore, had claimed in his application that he held a B.P.Ed. degree from OPJS University, Churu. The investigation found that Bharmal Ram had arranged for an impersonator to appear in the examination on his behalf. He cleared the exam and was subsequently selected and appointed as a government Physical Trainer. A case was registered at the SOG police station in Jaipur under Sections 419, 420 and 120B of the IPC and Sections 3, 4 and 6 of the Rajasthan Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2022. Bharmal Ram was arrested earlier and a charge sheet has already been filed against him. During the investigation, the SOG found that the BP.Ed. degree submitted by Bharmal Ram during document verification was actually issued by Shri Sai University of Technology and Medical Sciences, Sehore, and appeared to be backdated. Following a court-issued search warrant, SOG teams searched the university and seized records and computer data. A forensic financial audit found two separate fee ledger accounts in Bharmal Ram's name. Several entries appeared to have been made after the relevant dates but were shown as if they had been recorded earlier. Investigators found that the examination result had been declared on October 21, 2022, while entries in the university's fee ledger were made after that date. The probe also uncovered discrepancies involving degrees issued in several other courses, including law, Ph.D., engineering, BCA, MBA, B.Sc. and physiotherapy. SOG officials are examining whether these degrees were also issued after the academic sessions had ended and were subsequently made to appear valid or backdated. SOG found that 66 candidates who appeared in the Physical Trainer Recruitment Exam-2022 had submitted B.P.Ed. degrees from the same university. Most of these degrees were prima facie found to be backdated, officials said. SOG officials said the probe into the university's records, digital evidence and degrees of other candidates is continuing.
