Jaipur, Aug. 18 -- Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot has criticised Union home minister Amit Shah over his criticism of the party on Vande Mataram, alleging that the BJP and RSS had no historical association with the national song during the freedom struggle. Reacting to Shah's comments in Chittorgarh, Gehlot said Vande Mataram was first sung at the 1896 Congress session and became a tradition at Congress sessions from 1905. He alleged Congress leaders continued raising the slogan despite British bans, fines and imprisonment. Targeting the RSS, Gehlot claimed it did not adopt Vande Mataram during the freedom struggle and instead adopted "Namaste Sada Vatsale" in 1939. He also accused the RSS of staying away from the Quit India Movement. "Speeches cannot change history," he said....
