Vaishnaw flags off key railway projects at Jodhpur station
India, May 23 -- Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union culture and tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Friday flagged off new railway services and inaugurated major rail infrastructure projects at Jodhpur Railway Station, giving a significant boost to rail connectivity in western Rajasthan.
During the programme, the ministers flagged off train number 04871, the inaugural special service of the Jodhpur-Delhi Cantt Vande Bharat Superfast Express.
The event also marked the expansion of the Vande Bharat train from eight coaches to 20 coaches and the extension of the Sabarmati-Jodhpur Express up to Jaisalmer. In addition, the newly built Coach Care Complex at Jaisalmer was inaugurated. Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that from May 24, 2026, the regular Jodhpur-Delhi Cantt Vande Bharat Express will operate with 20 coaches, including two executive chair cars, 16 air-conditioned chair cars and two driver power cars.
He said the expansion would significantly increase seating capacity and improve passenger convenience.
Addressing the gathering, Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Railways was rapidly moving towards world-class standards.
He described the railways as the "lifeline of the country" and said the last 12 years had witnessed unprecedented transformation in the sector.
Vaishnaw said there had been a long-standing demand from migrants and residents of western Rajasthan for enhanced rail connectivity to major cities. Keeping this in mind, new train services to Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad were introduced. He added that the coaching terminal in Jodhpur would be a milestone....
