Jaipur, July 28 -- Union minister of state for health and family welfare Anupriya Patel on Monday presided over the 5th Convocation Ceremony of AIIMS Jodhpur, where she urged the graduating batch to dedicate themselves to serving marginalised communities with compassion, integrity and a commitment to lifelong learning. The convocation saw AIIMS Jodhpur confer 1,189 degrees across undergraduate, postgraduate, superspeciality and doctoral programmes, while 25 institute medals were awarded to outstanding students for academic excellence. Patel congratulated the graduating students, medal recipients, parents and faculty. She said the convocation marked a defining milestone in their lives rather than merely a ceremonial occasion. Highlighting the importance of continuous learning in medicine, Patel said doctors must keep pace with rapidly evolving technologies, new drugs and advanced treatment methods. She stressed that while textbooks provide theoretical knowledge, patients remain the greatest teachers and urged young doctors to treat every patient with empathy and understanding. "Patients may forget a prescription, but they never forget how a doctor made them feel," she said, emphasising the human side of medical practice. Calling upon graduates to work in rural, remote and economically weaker regions, Patel said true national service lies in ensuring quality healthcare reaches those who have the least access to it.
