Team from Kuno attacked while tracking cheetah, FIR registered
Bharatpur/Karauli, Nov. 7 -- A forester with Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park has lodged a police complaint alleging that five to six villagers assaulted him and threatened to kill him while he was tracking cheetah KGP-3 in Rajasthan's Karauli district.
Alok Prajapati, 34, filed the complaint on Tuesday, seeking police protection for the forest team deployed for night patrolling.
According to the complaint, the cheetah's movement was traced to Chandelipura gram panchayat in the Mandrayal police station area, where it had killed a buffalo calf.
Prajapati told HT that an elderly man confronted the team during patrolling and began abusing its members.
"We tried to convince him and assured him that compensation would be provided for the death of the buffalo calf. Later, another man arrived and called other villagers. The attackers tried to strangle me and started pelting stones," he alleged.
Mandrayal station house officer Jay Prakash Singh said a case had been registered against five to six unidentified people under Sections 121(1), 132, 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
An investigation is underway, said police officers.
The cheetah, which strayed from Kuno into Karauli, has returned to the area and is currently in the forests of Mandrayal. Teams from Kuno and Karauli are monitoring its movements.
Prajapati also alleged that a tiger had recently been shot dead by villagers in the area and said the Kuno team needed police protection....
