Tailor gets Rs.975cr I-T dept notice in Ajmer
Ajmer, Aug. 21 -- A 62-year-old tailor from Gobindgarh in Ajmer received an income tax recovery notice from the Surat Income Tax Department demanding nearly Rs.975 crore, police said on Thursday.
According to the notice, Rekhraj Thada, who earns around Rs.15,000 a month, is listed as a director of Surat-based Roop Rajat Diamond Private Limited. However, Rekhraj claims that he has never run any company and has never even visited Gujarat. After receiving the notice, his family sought the help of a chartered accountant to examine the records. During the verification, his name was also found listed as a director of another Surat-based company, Jai Baberi Diamond Private Limited.
Rekhraj approached Additional SP Rural Lalchand Kayal and filed a complaint. Rekhraj said he received the Surat Income Tax Department notice on August 13 and was asked to appear in Surat by August 20. He has since responded to the notice through email.
He alleged that someone misused his PAN card. According to the records, the company has allegedly been operating since 2011, but Rekhraj maintains that he has no knowledge of its operations....
