jAipur, July 14 -- Doctors at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital have successfully removed hydatid cysts on a 45-year-old woman's liver, spleen and right lung, using techniques specialists classified as among the least invasive ever employed to treat the condition. Hydatid cysts develop due to the ingestion of flatworm eggs. The hospital said diagnostics revealed cysts measuring approximately 10x9 cm in the liver, 10x5 cm in the spleen and 5x6 cm in the right lung. The surgical team conducted a laparoscopic procedure to remove the liver and spleen cysts, and a Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) to remove the lung cysts. The surgery was led by senior professor Dr Rajendra Bagri of the Department of Surgery, Unit-5. Dr Bagri said hydatid disease typically affects the liver and lungs, but finding cysts simultaneously in the liver, spleen and lung was rare.
