Supreme court paves way for RCA elections
Jaipur, July 8 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the way for long-pending elections to the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) by allowing the withdrawal of a Special Leave Petition (SLP) challenging the Rajasthan High Court's order directing fresh polls within three months.
A bench of Justice K V Vishwanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe heard the matter.
Additional Advocate General Shiv Mangal Sharma, appearing for court-appointed administrator Bhaskar A. Sawant, told the court that the administrator had already taken charge of the RCA and that the SLP, filed by members of the erstwhile ad hoc committee, could not be treated as a petition on behalf of the administrator.
Sharma said the bench declined to interfere with the High Court's July 1 order.
Following the court's observations, the petitioners withdrew the SLP. The HC had appointed Sawant as administrator and directed that elections be held within three months, with the election schedule to be announced by July 29.
