State to launch month-long drive against child labour, trafficking
Jaipur, May 30 -- Rajasthan Police will launch a month-long statewide special campaign, "Umang-VII", against child labour, bonded child labour and human trafficking from June 1 to 30, officials said. The campaign has been initiated with the objective of curbing child exploitation and ensuring rescue and rehabilitation of affected children.
Additional Director General of Police (Civil Rights and AHT) Hawa Singh Ghumaria has issued detailed guidelines to all police commissioners, range IGs, district SPs and GRP units in Ajmer and Jodhpur for effective implementation of the campaign. Under the campaign, an Additional SP-rank officer will be appointed as nodal officer in every district. District police chiefs have been instructed to coordinate with departments including Social Justice and Empowerment, Women and Child Development, Labour Department, Child Rights Department, Child Welfare Committees, shelter homes and NGOs to formulate a joint action strategy.
During the campaign, intensive screening operations will be conducted at hotels, roadside eateries, brick kilns, factories, railway platforms, bus stands, religious places, highway dhabas and temporary settlements where vulnerable children may be found. Police have been directed to document details of children found during the drives, including photographs and videography wherever necessary.
If any child is found to be missing or a victim of trafficking, immediate legal action will be initiated. Rescued children will undergo medical examination and psychological assessment wherever required, officials said.
The rescued children will be produced before the concerned Child Welfare Committee, while efforts will also be made to reunite them with their families after verification of parents and relatives. In cases involving children brought from other states, local police and authorities will be informed immediately.
The police headquarters has specifically directed officers to identify organised gangs involved in child labour and take strict legal action against them. Investigations will also be carried out at places where children stay during the night to identify trafficking networks. Strict legal action will be taken under Sections 75 and 79 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and provisions of the Child Labour Prohibition Act, 1986....
