Jaipur, July 20 -- In a major push to reduce maternal and neonatal complications, Rajasthan Chief Secretary V Srinivas has directed health officials to prepare a name-wise list of every high-risk pregnant woman in the state and assign an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) or Community Health Officer (CHO) to monitor each case regularly until delivery. Chairing a review meeting on maternal and child health through video conferencing on Sunday, the Chief Secretary instructed all Chief Medical and Health Officers (CMHOs) and District Reproductive and Child Health Officers (RCHOs) to convene meetings with ANMs on Monday morning to review the line list of high-risk pregnancies, analyse the reasons behind the risks and ensure timely medical intervention. Srinivas stressed that referral services must be readily available whenever required so that pregnant women receive prompt treatment at appropriate healthcare facilities. He also sought updates from superintendents of all medical colleges and heads of gynaecology departments on the number of normal and caesarean deliveries conducted over the past 24 hours and the current condition of mothers. He directed all government hospitals to strictly follow SOPs for deliveries and other surgical procedures.
