State gives 3 days to remove illegal modifications from vehicles
Jaipur, June 3 -- The Rajasthan government has announced a statewide enforcement drive against vehicles fitted with illegal modifications, while granting vehicle owners a three-day grace period to voluntarily rectify violations before strict action begins.
Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the Transport and Road Safety Department on Monday night issued detailed instructions for a comprehensive awareness and enforcement campaign across the desert state.
The move comes amid concerns that illegally modified vehicles are increasingly being used in drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.
Officials said the campaign will be implemented by the Transport and Road Safety Department in coordination with Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and district transport officers, ensuring strict compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
Authorities have flagged the misuse of red and blue beacons, flashers, strobe lights, hooters and pressure horns, along with illegal structural modifications to vehicles.
The department has clarified that any modification affecting a vehicle's original registration specifications - such as changes in structure, chassis, colour, seating capacity, dimensions or manufacturer-approved design - will be treated as illegal, according to the announcement.
Similarly, black films beyond permissible limits, opaque coverings, fake number plates and unauthorised stickers or monograms will invite action....
