Jaipur, Oct. 6 -- Rajasthan chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Sunday rejected claims that 130 million voters' names were deleted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, calling the allegation "completely misleading and untrue". "The opposition is attempting to spread confusion and rumours about the SIR among the public for political gain. The reality is that the draft list has identified deceased, absent, permanently shifted or duplicate entries in accordance with the prescribed procedure," Sharma wrote on X. He said SIR aimed to make electoral rolls more accurate and reliable, prevent fraudulent voting and safeguard every eligible citizen's right to vote. The chief minister also urged people to remain alert to rumours spread for political gain and rely on the Election Commission of India (ECI's) official information channels for authentic details about rolls. Sharma also flagged that entries had not been deleted from the final rolls and eligible voters could file claims and objections. His remarks came amid opposition allegations of mass deletions across 30 states and Union territories. Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot also questioned the exercise.
