Jaipur, Aug. 25 -- Rajasthan State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh on Monday pulled up districts and officials for failing to show the required seriousness in preparations for the Urban Local Body General Elections-2026, warning that any negligence or laxity in election-related work would not be tolerated. Singh was reviewing the preparations during a training programme for Returning Officers appointed for the urban local body elections, held through video conference at the State Election Commission auditorium in the Secretariat. Officials from all districts participated in the programme. The State Election Commissioner interacted directly with officials from different districts and took stock of the progress of preparations. He reviewed the arrangements district-wise, sought details of issues being faced by officials and issued directions for their timely resolution. Singh specifically reviewed the status of revision and updating of electoral rolls, facilities to be provided to persons with disabilities at polling stations, and preparations at sensitive and critical polling stations. He directed officials to ensure that the names of all eligible voters are included in the electoral rolls and that persons with disabilities and other voters requiring assistance are provided necessary facilities during polling. During the review, Singh expressed displeasure with districts and officials who had not accorded the required seriousness to election preparations. He made it clear that negligence or any slackness at any level in the election process would not be accepted. Officials were directed to complete all election-related tasks within the prescribed timelines and ensure strict compliance with the Commission's instructions. The training programme covered various stages of the election process, including filing of nominations, polling and counting, as well as the responsibilities of Returning Officers.
