JODHPUR, June 1 -- The agriculture department has halted the sale of 27,178 bags of groundnut seed, each weighing 20 kg, stored at a private warehouse in RIICO Mandore with immediate effect, officials said on Sunday. Additional director of agriculture (Extension), Jodhpur Division, Dr GR Matoria, said that notices have been issued to Vinayak Cold Storage and Warehouse as well as seed-producing companies Agrigenetics Private Limited and Ganesh Agrigenetics. He said seed inspectors collected 32 samples from different varieties and lots of the stored groundnut seed during the inspection. These samples will be sent to an authorised seed testing laboratory for quality analysis. Necessary action will be taken as per rules after the test reports are received. During the inspection drive, officials also found a truck loaded with groundnut pods at Balaji Agro Industries in Boranada. The pods, brought for shelling, did not carry any seed-related marking, label or certification. Considering the prima facie suspicious condition, seed inspectors issued a notice to the firm. The department has also halted the sale of 132 bags of suspected groundnut seed, each of 20 kg, found at the premises. Dr Matoria said if the investigation establishes violations of the Seed Act, 1966, and the Seed Control Order, 1983, strict legal action will be taken....
