RVPN approves first-ever BESS to strengthen grid stability
Jaipur, April 28 -- Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPN) on Monday granted approval for a 3.4 MW / 6.8 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for the first time to strengthen the grid stability.
"The approval for the system was granted on Monday only. It will be integrated with a 68 MW hybrid renewable energy project of M/s JSW Renew Energy Thirty-Two Limited in Jaisalmer district. As per present commissioning capacity of the project, output will be upto 52 MW during solar hours, while during non-solar hours the output will be up to 23.4 MW, including 20 MW from wind and 3.4 MW supported through BESS," RVPN said in a statement.
Officials said, "The Project shall wheel electricity under Green Energy Open Access Regulations. RVPN has taken proactive steps to facilitate the integration of renewable energy with storage systems by issuing a Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) for First Time Charging (FTC) of BESS installed with already commissioned renewable energy projects. The SoP provides a clear and standardized framework for commissioning, ensuring transparency, uniformity, and adherence to grid security requirements."
Issuance of this SoP will boost the commissioning of RE projects with BESS in Rajasthan. Developers have been advised to undertake FTC strictly in accordance with the approved procedure and applicable regulations.
"As per the Rajasthan Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2024, installation of Energy Storage Systems is mandatory for renewable energy projects above 5 MW connected to the State Transmission Utility network. This provision is aimed at improving grid reliability, maintaining system stability, and enabling better integration of renewable energy," it said....
