Rajasthan's longest high-level bridge built
Jaipur, Oct. 3 -- Rajasthan's longest high-level bridge, at 3.34 kilometre, has been constructed over the Banas River at Gehlod in Tonk district at a cost of Rs.134.74 crore, with the project expected to provide year-round connectivity to several areas that faced disruptions during the monsoon, a release states.
Built by the public works department through the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), the Gehlod High-Level Bridge comprises a 2-km main bridge and 1.34-km approach road, states the release.
The main bridge has 50 spans, each measuring 40 metres, and has a load-bearing capacity of around 243 tonnes. The project is being described by the state government as an example of engineering quality and disaster-resilient connectivity.
The new bridge is expected to address a long-standing connectivity problem in the region. During heavy rains, the old causeway over the Banas would get submerged or damaged, disrupting movement. People travelling towards Tonk often had to take an additional 30-40 km route.
With it, year-round and safer connectivity is expected between Piplu, Malpura, Todaraisingh, Phagi and Ajmer areas, while improving access to Tonk and surrounding regions.htc...
