Jaipur, May 11 -- Rajasthan recorded the fifth highest number of children in the country who went missing in 2024, according to the National Crime Record Bureau data. According to the data, the maximum number of 15,849 children went missing in West Bengal in 2024 followed by 14,296 in Madhya Pradesh, 8,032 in Tamil Nadu 7,576 in Bihar, and 7,198 in Rajasthan. Data also showed that over 84% of these missing children are minor girls. Additionally, the state also has another 1,399 children who are missing for more than a year but could not be traced yet. Of these, 1,008 are also girls while 391 are boys. Of the total missing children, 1,226 including 882 girls and 344 boys are yet untraced. Four of them also recovered dead. Meanwhile, 39,384 adults also went missing in Rajasthan in 2024 while the maximum 63,116 went missing in West Bengal followed by 79,368 in Maharashtra, and 65,338 in Madhya Pradesh. Of the total missing adults in Rajasthan 30,336 are female while 9,048 are male. Apart from them, another 27,777 persons were also missing for more than a year. Of the total, 29,345 are yet untraced. NCRB data also showed that Rajasthan reported atleast 75 human trafficking cases in 2024- down from 81 in 2023 and 117 in 2022. However, 333 victims including 19 minor girls and 43 women have so far been rescued in those 75 trafficking cases. Two of these victims were also the residents of a different country. Of the total 333 victims, 273 were forcefully pushed into some labour works, 38 were exploited in prostitution, 5 were married off forcefully. Data also showed that at least 154 people have been arrested int hose cases while nobody was acquitted so far. Police has also filed chargesheets in all those cases. Meanwhile, Rajasthan also reported a very high number of kidnapping cases. With a total 9,083 cases, the state stood fourth in the country after 12,163 in Uttar Pradesh, 13,733 in Maharashtra, and 11,187 in Madhya Pradesh. Of the total, at least 60.45% of children who were kidnapped are minors. As per the NCRB data, 59 of them are below 6 years old, 268 are 6 to 12 years old, 1,531 are 12 to 16 years old, and 3,633 are 16 to 18 years old. Of the total people who were kidnapped, at least 212 were also Dalits and 69 are also tribals. At least 13 dalit children and 9 tribal children were abducted in 2024, as per NCRB data. At least 12 dalit girls and 1 tribal girl were also kidnapped to compel for marriage. Commenting on the development, a senior police officer from the police headquarters said, "Rajasthan police have aroudn 43 anti human trafficking units across 51 police districts. It is one of the highest in the country. They are strongly monitoring the situation and traking action. The number of trafficking has gone down significantly in the state.
