Jaipur, Aug. 17 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has said his government is working towards introducing the Rajasthan Civil Code-2026 in accordance with the constitutional mandate for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Addressing the state-level Independence Day program at Dr Karni Singh Stadium in Bikaner on Saturday, he said Article 44 of the Constitution directs the state to endeavour to secure a UCC for all citizens. "Our government is working towards bringing the Rajasthan Civil Code-2026 in keeping with this constitutional spirit. This will help ensure a uniform set of laws for all citizens of the state," he said. Sharma said the state government had taken several "major and stringent" steps to create an environment of peace and security in Rajasthan. He said the Rajasthan Disturbed Areas Act had been brought in to prevent forced migration and the sale of properties in communally sensitive areas. The measure, he said, would ensure that people were not forced to leave their homes, ancestral land or identity. He also said the government had enacted the Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act to prevent attempts at religious conversion through inducement or fraudulent means. The government, he added, was following a zero-tolerance policy towards crime and corruption, which was helping reduce crime and maintain peace in the state. The CM said Rajasthan was moving rapidly towards the goal of a developed state by 2047. He highlighted major infrastructure and energy projects, including the Rs.79,459-crore HPCL Rajasthan Refinery project at Pachpadra and Mahi-Banswara Nuclear Power Project, saying these would become new engines of the state's economic growth. After hoisting the national flag, Sharma inspected the parade and took the salute at the march-past. He also honoured officials, employees and individuals for outstanding contributions in administration, police and other government services, as well as achievements in social service, folk arts, environment and sports. The Independence Day program also featured cultural performances by folk artists from Rajasthan, Odisha, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, along with patriotic performances by school students....
