Raj targets 115 GW Renewable Energy capacity by 2030, 290 GW by 2047: CM
India, May 16 -- Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Friday said the state government has set a target of establishing 115 gigawatt renewable energy capacity and 10 gigawatt energy storage projects by 2030, which will be expanded to 290 gigawatt by 2047 as Rajasthan pushes to emerge as the country's leading green energy hub.
Addressing the Rajasthan Energy Conclave, Sharma said energy conservation remains the cheapest, most effective and sustainable form of energy generation, stressing that responsible and restrained use of resources would pave the way for energy self-reliance.
The Chief Minister said Rajasthan was already playing a leading role in solar energy production and would further strengthen its identity as an "energy provider state" in the coming years.
He said the state was emerging as the centre of a green energy revolution due to immense possibilities in non-conventional energy sources.
Highlighting the state's long-term energy roadmap, Sharma said the government has already allocated 6,000 megawatt battery storage capacity projects, while another 6,400 megawatt projects are currently under process.
He said the state government was moving in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's national target of achieving 500 gigawatt renewable energy capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
According to the Chief Minister, Rajasthan has a potential of 828 gigawatt solar energy and 284 gigawatt wind energy.
More than 47 gigawatt renewable energy capacity has already been installed in the state, making Rajasthan a national leader in solar project implementation.
He added that during the current government's tenure, renewable energy capacity in the state has increased by 24,410 megawatt.
To accelerate investment in clean energy, the government has introduced the Rajasthan Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 aimed at promoting renewable energy, biofuel, energy storage and green hydrogen projects.
Sharma also highlighted the expansion of solar infrastructure under the PM Kusum scheme, under which small solar projects are being established on agricultural land to meet farm electricity demand through solar energy. He said projects of over 4,000 megawatt capacity have already been installed, while 6,500 megawatt projects have been allotted.
He further said solar parks with a capacity of 4,670 megawatt have already been developed through state-run and joint venture companies, while solar parks exceeding 12,000 megawatt capacity are currently under construction.
The Chief Minister said more than 1,000 government buildings in the state have already been solarised, while additional 600 megawatt plants would be installed through virtual and net metering systems.
Emphasising electric mobility and fuel conservation, Sharma arrived at the conclave in an electric vehicle to promote green energy and fuel savings. He described fuel conservation and energy efficiency as a people-driven movement and said reducing petrol and diesel consumption had become a necessity of the times....
