Raj seeks 6 mths from SC for Rajasthani edu
BIKANER, Oct. 1 -- The Rajasthan government has sought six more months from the Supreme Court to complete the policy and implementation framework for introducing Rajasthani language education in schools, while reporting that several initiatives have already been undertaken at the foundational stage.
In a status report, the state said it was still examining language data, preparing teaching-learning material and working on a comprehensive policy. It sought six months from September 30 to complete the remaining exercise ordered by the top court in its May 12 judgment.
The report said the RSCERT, Udaipur, had undertaken linguistic mapping covering about 643,000 Class I students and their teachers across all districts. The exercise identified home languages and regional forms including Wagdi, Garasia, Mewari, Marwari, Braj, Mewati, Shekhawati, Hadoti and Dhundhari. The state, in its report, said a multilingual education programme for Classes I and II had been piloted in 100 schools in Dungarpur and Sirohi, using Wagdi and Garasia as local dialects of the Rajasthani language.
Teaching material is also being developed for 23 additional districts for proposed use from the next academic session.
Seeking more time, the state said different languages and regional forms are spoken across Rajasthan and that the policy must determine the appropriate form of instruction on the basis of reliable data.
The case is listed before the Supreme Court on October 5....
