Jaipur, Aug. 27 -- Rajasthan recorded 16.13% less rainfall than normal between June 1 and August 25, 2026. According to Water Resources Department data, Rajasthan should have received 341.03 mm of rain during this period but recorded only 286.02 mm. The figure is also significantly lower than last year, when the state received 521.45 mm during the same period. While the state's overall rainfall remains within the "normal" category, the district-wise picture is far more concerning, with 18 of the state's 41 districts falling in the deficit category. The state's 41 districts have been classified into five rainfall categories based on their deviation from normal rainfall. This year, not a single district has recorded "abnormal" rainfall, defined as 60% or more above normal. In contrast, 18 districts were in this category by the same date last year. Only five districts - Deeg, Phalodi, Bikaner, Bharatpur and Salumber - have recorded rainfall in the "excess" category, with 20% to 59% more than normal. Eighteen districts have recorded normal rainfall, while another 18 are in the "deficit" category, with rainfall 20% to 59% below normal. No district has fallen into the "scanty" category, which indicates a deficit of 60% or more. The contrast with last year is stark. By August 25 last year, 18 districts had recorded abnormal rainfall and 16 were in the excess category. This year, only five districts are in the excess category, while nearly half of the state's districts are facing a significant rainfall deficit. The Jodhpur division has recorded an average rainfall deficit of 26.07%, putting the division in the deficit category. Pali has recorded the state's largest shortfall at 53.29% below normal, followed by Jalore at 45.91%, Jaisalmer at 43.23% and Sirohi at 30.61%. Barmer has recorded 4.27% excess rainfall, while Phalodi is 33.95% above normal. The Kota division has recorded 21.72% less rainfall on average. Baran is 25.20% below normal, Bundi 24.49% below normal and Kota 24.44% below normal, while Jhalawar has recorded a 14.24% deficit. The entire Hadoti region has been affected by the weak rainfall pattern. The Udaipur division has recorded an average deficit of 24.20%. Banswara is 44.17% below normal, Dungarpur 36.90% below normal, Rajsamand 32.47% below normal and Udaipur 39.79% below normal. Salumber, however, has recorded 20.97% excess rainfall. Bikaner is the only division to record an overall rainfall surplus, with rainfall 4.87% above normal. Bikaner district has received 23.21% more rainfall than normal, while Churu is almost normal at 0.41% above normal. Hanumangarh has recorded a 25.97% deficit and Sri Ganganagar 11.04% below normal. The Bharatpur division has recorded an average deficit of 7.25%, remaining within the normal category. Deeg has received 41.83% more rain than normal and Bharatpur 21.72% more. Dholpur is 9.64% above normal, Karauli 17.17% below normal and Sawai Madhopur 30.56% below normal. The Jaipur division has recorded 10.67% less rainfall on average. Dausa is 20% below normal and Jaipur 21.13% below normal, while Kotputli-Behror is 19.79% below normal. Alwar, Jhunjhunu and Sikar have remained within the normal range. The Ajmer division has recorded an average deficit of 12.29%. Bhilwara has recorded 28.02% less rainfall and Tonk 23.29% less.
