Raj municipal polls in 2 phases on Sept 9, 11: SEC
JAIPUR, Aug. 20 -- The Rajasthan State Election Commission on Wednesday announced that polling for all the 309 urban local bodies will be held in two phases on September 9 and 11 and counting of votes will be on September 14. With the announcement of the schedule, the Model Code of Conduct came into force with immediate effect in the areas falling under the respective urban local bodies (ULBs).
State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh said elections will be held for 10,245 councillor posts across 309 urban local bodies, comprising 10 municipal corporations, 51 municipal councils and 248 municipalities.
According to the schedule, the election notification will be issued on August 27, marking the beginning of the nomination process. Candidates will be able to file nominations until August 31. The nomination papers will subsequently be scrutinised, while the deadline for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed for September 3.
Polling for the first phase will be held on September 9, followed by the second phase on September 11. Votes for both phases will be counted and results declared on September 14.
After the election of councillors, the process for electing the heads of urban local bodies will begin. Elections for mayors, chairpersons and municipal presidents will be held on September 21.
The general body meetings of municipal corporations, municipal councils and municipalities will be on September 22, during which deputy mayors, deputy chairpersons and municipal vice-presidents will be elected.
Among the 10 municipal corporations, the mayoral posts in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Bikaner have been kept unreserved. The mayoral posts in Alwar, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bharatpur and Pali have been reserved for women, while the Kota mayoral post has been reserved for an OBC woman.
Of the 309 posts of urban local body heads, 101 have been reserved for women across different categories. These include 16 for SC women, three for ST women, 20 for OBC women and 62 for women in the unreserved category.
Jaipur division accounts for the highest number of ULBs at 91. Of these, 13 head posts are reserved for SCs, including four for women; six for STs, including two for women; and 19 for OBCs, including six for women. The remaining 53 are in the unreserved category, including 18 reserved for women.
Ajmer division has 52 ULBs, with eight head posts reserved for SCs, including three for women, and 10 for OBCs, including three for women. The remaining 34 are unreserved category, including 11 for women. No post has been reserved for STs in the division.
Jodhpur division has 41 ULBs. Of these, 10 head posts are reserved for SCs, including three for women, and eight for OBCs, including three for women. The remaining 23 are unreserved, including eight for women. No post has been reserved for STs.
Bikaner has 37 ULBs, with five head posts reserved for SCs, including two for women, and seven for OBCs, including two for women. The remaining 25 are in the unreserved category, including eight reserved for women. No post has been reserved for STs in the division.
Bharatpur division has 32 ULBs. Nine head posts are reserved for SCs, including three for women, while one is reserved for STs. Six posts are reserved for OBCs, including two for women. The remaining 16 are in the unreserved category, including five reserved for women.
Kota division has 28 ULBs. Four head posts are reserved for SCs, including one for a woman, while five are reserved for OBCs, including two for women. The remaining 19 posts are in the unreserved category, including six reserved for women.
Udaipur also has 28 ULBs. Four head posts are reserved for STs, including one for a woman, while one is reserved for SCs, with none earmarked for women in the category.
