JAIPUR, June 22 -- Rajasthan observed International Yoga Day across the state on Sunday, with chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma leading celebrations at Mount Abu and Governor Haribhau Bagde presiding over the main state function in Jaipur. The chief minister took part in a mass yoga session on the banks of Nakki Lake in Mount Abu, a popular tourist spot, and urged people to adopt yoga as part of daily life for a healthy, balanced lifestyle. At the main state function at SMS Stadium in Jaipur, Bagde paid tribute to Maharishi Patanjali and inaugurated the programme by lighting a ceremonial lamp. He joined participants in performing yoga exercises and administered a pledge urging people to make yoga part of their daily routine. Addressing the gathering, the governor said, "Yoga is not merely a form of exercise but the foundation of a healthy body, a peaceful mind and a balanced life." The event was attended by Jaipur city MP Manju Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Alka Gurjar, deputy chief minister and AYUSH minister Prem Chand Bairwa. Hundreds of yoga practitioners, government employees, police and Home Guard personnel, NCC cadets, students and members of the public participated. Deputy chief minister Diya Kumari performed yoga at Albert Hall in Jaipur, where she also listened to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's live address. The Rajasthan Police Academy hosted a state-level yoga festival in Jaipur, where more than 1,100 police personnel took part in a group session attended by director general of police Rajiv Kumar Sharma. The programme emphasised physical fitness and mental well-being through yoga, pranayama and meditation. The Indian Army's Sapta Shakti Command also organised yoga programmes at various military stations, including Jaipur military station. Week-long activities were conducted under the guidance of Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, general officer commanding-in-chief of the South Western Command. In Jodhpur, a district-level programme at Samrat Ashok Udyan marked the 12th International Yoga Day. Education minister and district in-charge Madan Dilawar, cabinet minister Jogaram Patel, Pali MP P.P. Chaudhary, Rajya Sabha MP Rajendra Gehlot, former MP Ramnarayan Dudi and other leaders participated. Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and minister for law and justice Arjun Ram Meghwal joined a yoga session at Dr Karni Singh Stadium in Bikaner.
