Raj govt school students to get two opportunities to clear board exams
Jaipur, April 10 -- Rajasthan education minister Madan Dilawar on Thursday said that students across all government schools will now get two opportunities in a year to clear the board exam.
"We want to make the education system more sensitive to boost the confidence of the students. Our students have performed extremely well in the last two board exams for Class X and Class XII. Hence, we have decided to conduct each of these two exams twice a year," he said while addressing the press.
He said the move will help the students to appear for the exam twice in a year. "They will not have to waste an entire year anymore. They will be able to take one more attempt in the same year if they fail to clear in the first attempt. Students who feel they are not prepared during the first attempt, may also take the second attempt," he said.
He also declared the launch of a campaign to suggest appropriate and meaningful names for children if their current names are considered likely to cause embarrassment later in life.
"The Rajasthan School Education Department is set to launch a new initiative aimed at ensuring dignity and inclusivity among students. Under the proposed "Sarthak Naam Abhiyan" (Meaningful Names Campaign), the department will work with parents to replace student names that may be derogatory, meaningless, or cause discomfort," he said.
He added that the decision was taken in view of the children who were given names without thinking of long-term impact.
The minister said: "In several cases, names are chosen unknowingly or due to social reasons, but as children grow older, they may feel embarrassed or develop a sense of inferiority. The department has identified a range of such names and prepared a list of around 2,000 to 3,000 alternative names from which parents can choose. Officials will engage with families to encourage the adoption of more meaningful and respectful names for students."
Dilawar also said a direction was also given to the officials to remove caste-based or derogatory terms in official records....
