Raj gets Rs.22k-cr transmission push under Green Energy Corridor-III
Jaipur, Oct. 3 -- Rajasthan is set to receive a major boost to its renewable energy infrastructure, with the Centre's Rs.1.86 lakh crore Green Energy Corridor-III (GEC-III) scheme proposing a transmission network worth around Rs.22,000 crore in the state to evacuate an additional 13,255 MW of renewable energy.
The proposal includes 5,963 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 35,090 MVA of substation capacity. It envisages seven 765 kV substations, three 400 kV substations and five 220 kV substations, along with associated transmission lines.
The Union cabinet approved GEC-III on Thursday to strengthen intra-state transmission systems and enable evacuation of up to 135 GW of renewable energy across states and Union territories. The scheme, targeted for completion by 2032-33, has a total outlay of Rs.1,86,405 crore, including Rs.1,36,378 crore for intra-state transmission systems and Rs.50,000 crore for 50 GWh of battery energy storage systems.
For Rajasthan, the proposed transmission infrastructure is particularly significant as large solar and wind projects continue to come up in western districts, including Jaisalmer, Barmer and Bikaner, as well as major renewable energy hubs such as Bhadla, Ramgarh, Fatehgarh and Pugal.
Energy minister Hiralal Nagar said Rajasthan would be among the major beneficiaries of the scheme because of its rapidly expanding renewable energy capacity. He said the proposed infrastructure would strengthen the evacuation of power from western Rajasthan to major load centres within the state as well as the national grid.
The estimated Rs.22,000-crore investment will receive around Rs.6,000 crore in central financial assistance, according to the state government. Nagar said the additional transmission capacity would improve grid reliability, reduce congestion in transmission corridors and facilitate integration of future large-scale renewable energy projects....
