Raj ATS to probe recovery of arms near Pak border
BIKANER, Oct. 16 -- Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) will investigate the recovery of 7.750 kg of suspected RDX, arms and ammunition allegedly dropped by a Pakistani drone near the international border in Sri Ganganagar district, with police officers saying the two arrested men have named a Punjab-based handler who arranged the consignment through a contact in Pakistan.
The two accused have been identified as Lakhwinder Singh, son of Jeet Singh, a resident of Alike village under Firozpur Sadar police station limits, and Sukhwinder Singh, son of Satpal Singh, a resident of Dharam Singh Di Chhanna village in Mehatpur, Jalandhar district.
According to police sources familiar with the investigation, the accused told interrogators that Ram Singh alias Manni Raisikh, a resident of Alike village in Punjab's Firozpur district, had asked them to collect the consignment. He allegedly connected them with a man, whom he called- Umar Chacha, in Pakistan, and arranged for the material to be sent across the border by drone.
The investigators are also examining a possible link with the September 13 grenade attack on the City police station in Jalalabad, Punjab's Fazilka district. According to officers familiar with the matter- Sukhwinder Singh, one of the two men arrested in the Rawla case, is suspected of involvement in the attack. The Punjab connection has added another line of inquiry to the case.
Windscreens of two vehicles parked inside the Jalalabad police station premises were damaged in the attack with no injuries reported. Investigators are examining whether the accused, the alleged handler and the drone-dropped consignment are connected to that attack or to a wider network operating across the border. The alleged connection has not yet been established.
According to police sources, the accused had arrived at a relative's house in the Ram Singhpur police station area two to three days before the recovery. They were working as cotton pickers in agricultural fields in the Sri Vijaynagar area and allegedly travelled intermittently by motorcycle to village 12 KND near Rawla to conduct recce of the border area....
