Rahul's remarks reflect political frustration: BJP
Jaipur, May 22 -- BJP workers on Thursday staged a protest in Jaipur and burned an effigy of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his "traitors" and "nautanki" (theatrics) remarks for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah, with Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore accusing Gandhi of lowering political discourse and stating that his action's indicated political frustration.
Several BJP workers gathered at the party office, raised slogans against Gandhi and marched from the BJP headquarters, where they burned an effigy of the Congress leader.
Addressing party workers, Rathore said Mahatma Gandhi had advocated dissolving the Congress after Independence, but political leaders at the time kept it alive for their own interests. He alleged that Gandhi, through his statements and style of politics, was now taking the Congress towards its end.
"Rahul Gandhi's statements are digging the grave of the Congress party. The Congress is gradually becoming politically irrelevant. Using such language against the Prime Minister was not only inappropriate but also against the dignity of the nation, as the Prime Minister represents the country on the global stage," he said.
The BJP leader said Gandhi failed to recognise India's growing global stature, foreign policy achievements and diplomatic outreach under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, while focusing on "toffees and chocolates." He accused the opposition of resorting to "frivolous and low-level politics" while the Centre worked to strengthen the country economically and internationally.
During the protest, Rathore distributed chocolates among party workers and took a swipe at Gandhi over his recent remarks referring to "Melody toffee." Referring to Gandhi's maternal family roots in Italy, Rathore alleged the Congress leader appeared more interested in chocolates than national issues.
"Gandhi's comments did not reflect the stature expected of a national leader and instead indicated political frustration. His actions and statements appear childish," Rathore remarked.
Rathore also targeted the Congress over its proposed gherao of the BJP headquarters in connection with the alleged NEET paper leak. He said the Congress itself was internally divided and lacked both public support and organisational unity.
He defended the BJP government, saying there had been no paper leak incidents during the party's tenure in Rajasthan and claimed the NEET-related issue was not linked to the state. Rathore accused the Congress of staging protests merely to gain media attention and said the National Testing Agency had acted swiftly in the matter.
He added that any successful agitation required mass public support, which, according to him, the Congress no longer possessed.
Commenting on the Congress protest in Jaipur, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Swarnim Chaturvedi said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has consistently been raising issues related to the hardships and concerns of the public, which, he claimed, makes the BJP uncomfortable. He alleged that whenever BJP leaders fail to respond to the issues raised by Rahul Gandhi, they resort to "baseless statements" against him. Chaturvedi further claimed that the protest organised by the Congress in Jaipur was of a scale the BJP had never managed in its history and alleged that the ruling party was attempting to tarnish Rahul Gandhi's image due to the growing public support he is receiving across the country....
