Protest in Deeg over police harassment
Bharatpur/Deeg, June 19 -- Thousands of people participated in a panchayat and protest rally in Deeg district on Thursday, alleging police harassment, false criminal cases and corruption. The protest was led by former Congress MLA Wajib Ali, former minister Jahida Khan and former minister Rajendra Gudha.
The gathering was held at Budli village in the Nagar Assembly constituency. After the panchayat, protesters attempted to march towards the Deeg district collectorate to stage a sit-in demonstration and demand action against police personnel accused of corruption and misconduct.
Protesters later submitted a memorandum to Deeg additional district collector Raj Kumar Kaswa.
Addressing the gathering, former MLA Wajib Ali alleged that innocent people in the area were being falsely implicated in criminal cases and subjected to harassment by police personnel.
"For a long time, police have been torturing innocent people and registering fake cases against them. People are allegedly being forced to pay bribes, and those who refuse are implicated in false cases," Ali claimed, citing some incidents.
Former minister Rajendra Gudha alleged that members of a particular community were being targeted and falsely implicated in criminal cases. "The state minister of Home has failed to ensure justice for innocent people. Police personnel in his constituency are allegedly involved in illegal recoveries and intimidation," Gudha said.
Responding to the allegations, Bharatpur BJP district president Shivani Dayma dismissed the charges as baseless.
"All allegations made by former Congress leaders are false. Police do not discriminate on the basis of religion and act strictly according to law," Dayma said.
ADC Kaswa confirmed that the protesters had submitted a memorandum....
