Probe mining lease granted to paper leak accused's father: Min
Jaipur, July 12 -- State cabinet minister Kirodi Lal Meena has written to chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma seeking a high-level probe into a Rs.20-crore gravel mining lease awarded to the father of alleged paper leak kingpin Suresh Dhaka.
The letter comes a day after the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) began probing whether the mining lease was financed using proceeds allegedly generated through the state's paper leak racket.
In his letter, Meena said the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had already attached properties linked to Suresh Dhaka and questioned the source of the investment made in the mining project awarded to his father, Mangilal Dhaka.
"An impartial investigation should be conducted into the approval process for the mining lease granted to Suresh Dhaka's father and the source of the funds used for the investment," Meena wrote, urging the chief minister to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) or hand the case to an independent agency.
Recalling the investigation into the 2022 Senior Teacher Recruitment Examination paper leak, Meena claimed he had alerted the then Congress government that Suresh Dhaka, whom he described as the mastermind of the paper leak network, was hiding in Jaipur's Vaishali Nagar. However, he alleged that Dhaka managed to flee the city on December 28, 2022, due to the "connivance" of officials in the SOG.
Meena further claimed that Dhaka had played a key role in several offline and online recruitment examination irregularities since 2013. He said action against Dhaka's coaching institute in January 2023 and the subsequent ED attachment of his assets were based on evidence he had provided. The minister also sought an investigation into Dhaka's family members, associates and financial network.
The controversy erupted after it emerged on Friday that Dhaka Construction, a firm owned by Mangilal Dhaka, had secured a five-year gravel mining lease worth around Rs.20 crore near Giri Nanda Dam in Beawar district after emerging as the highest bidder in an e-tender floated by Mines Department in 2024. .
Responding to the political controversy, state BJP chief spokesperson Ramlal Sharma said: "Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena is a serious and respected politician who has consistently raised issues of public interest. He did so during the previous government and continues to do so now. The government takes his concerns seriously"....
