Jaipur, Aug. 24 -- Over 2,000 textile MSME units have been sealed across Rajasthan in the past 35 days as authorities intensify action against industries violating environmental norms in major textile clusters, including Balotra, Jasol, Pali, Sanganer and Jodhpur. The crackdown follows directions of the Supreme Court, under which stricter environmental regulations have been enforced in the Jojari, Bandi, Luni and Sanganer river basins. Officials said criminal liability, instead of merely civil penalties, is being imposed in cases of violations. Chief secretary V Srinivas reviewed the environmental compliance of textile industries and the functioning of Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs). He discussed a comprehensive plan to control river pollution, improve wastewater management and restore river belts. A blueprint for river-belt restoration will be prepared, while river basin authorities will establish regulatory zones. Measures will also include redesigning drainage systems, removing sludge from rivers and deploying AI-based water-treatment tools. The review highlighted major capacity and operational issues at CETPs in key textile clusters. In Balotra, an 18 MLD Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant was established at a project cost of Rs.131.90 crore. It has been closed for the past few months. The meeting also urged the Centre to allow RIICO to establish CETPs in cases where non-compliance has been identified by the Central Project Verification (CPV) mechanism. Under the CETP Establishment/Upgradation Assistance Scheme, financial support of up to 75% of project cost is available, at Rs.18 crore per MLD, subject to a maximum of Rs.100 crore. Under HAM model for RIICO industrial areas, 80% assistance is available at Rs.18 crore per MLD, subject to a maximum of Rs 150 crore, while the remaining 20% is contributed by the SPV.
