Patwari missing after crocodile attack on retirement day
Bharatpur, Oct. 2 -- A 60-year-old patwari went missing after allegedly being attacked and dragged into the Chambal river by a crocodile on the day of his retirement in Dholpur on Wednesday. His body had not been recovered till Thursday. The incident took place when Mohan Lal Gupta, a revenue department patwari, had gone to the Chambal river with his son and a friend to perform rituals for his ancestors.
According to police, Gupta slipped while offering water and a crocodile attacked him and dragged him into the deep water. His son, Chitransh Gupta, raised an alarm and informed police.
Police reached the spot and called the Civil Defence team. A search operation was launched with the help of rescue personnel and local divers.
The rescue operation continued for the second consecutive day on Thursday, but Gupta could not be traced. Ramkishan Yadav, in-charge of Dholpur City Kotwali, said, "Rescue operation is continuing to locate and recover Gupta."...
