panchayat reservation lottery deferred for second time
Jaipur, Sept. 17 -- The Rajasthan government has postponed the reservation lottery for posts of Zila Parishad members, pradhans, panchayat samiti members, sarpanches and panchs for the second time.
The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department issued an order on Tuesday, deferring the lottery scheduled for September 17 and 18.
The decision was taken following requests from several district collectors, who cited the ongoing election process for chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of urban local bodies on the same dates.
Since district collectors are also responsible for conducting the panchayat reservation lottery, the department said holding both processes simultaneously could create administrative difficulties. The lottery will be reconsidered after the municipal election process is completed, with fresh dates to be announced later.
The postponement comes even as the state government has been promoting the idea of holding urban local body and Panchayati Raj elections together under the broader "one state, one election" approach. With the latest deferment, the gap between the two election processes has widened further.
The reservation lottery was postponed once earlier on August 16. At the time, the lottery for reservation of seats for sarpanches and ward panchs, scheduled for August 18, was deferred....
