JaipurO, May 26 -- Over 300 cow carcasses were found at a dumpyard in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer, officials said on Monday, adding that they have been collected from across the city in the last 15 to 20 days. "The dump yard is operated by the Jaisalmer city municipal corporation. We have a contract with a local farm who is responsible to collect the dead bodies of these cows from the city and dispose them at a porper place. But they failed to do it. We learnt about it on Sunday night only and are taking actions against them. However, these cows had a natural death. No sign of any illness have so far been traced," said the commissioner of the municipality, Lajpal Singh Sodha. On Monday morning, Sodha also issued a formal notice to the contractor and blacklisted the farm. Congres MP Ummedaram Beniwal slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for using the cows as a "henious political tool". Taking X, he wrote, "The state of the scene is the result of the gross negligence of the government system and the city council...The big question from the government is where the government's grants for cow protection and cow shelters are being spent, while cows are forced to die of hunger and thirst?" However, reacting to the development, BJP spokesperson, Ram Lal Sharma, said, "BJP government is always concerned about the cows and their well being. These cows died naturally and the contractor negligently left them at the dump yard. We ahve blacklisted them already. We don't play any politics over cows. It is the animal whom we worship. It is the Congress who does such henious politics."...
