BIKANER, March 2 -- Currency notes in 500 denominations were seen coming out of a sewage drain near a public park in Bikaner district's Antyodaya Nagar in Mukta Prasad Nagar police station area, police said. Mukta Prasad Nagar police station SHO Vijendra Sila said that the locals first noticed the notes mixed with wastewater flowing through an open drain around noon on Saturday and within minutes, a crowd gathered. Some people cautiously pulled out the soiled currency, washing the mud-streaked notes with clean water and laying them out to dry in the sun. "Amid the commotion, a few young men allegedly arrived on a motorcycle, quickly stuffed bundles of the notes into sacks and sped away before anyone could intervene, the police seized currency notes amounting to approximately Rs.70,000-80,000," Sila added. He said a probe has been launched to ascertain the source of the money and to determine whether the notes are genuine and how they ended up in the drainage system.
