Jaipur, July 25 -- Police in Karauli district said that the search for the 400-year-old cannon stolen from Madhya Pradesh's Narwar Fort last week has not yet yielded any leads, despite the involvement of over 60 police personnel from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Police have been camping in Gaonra Meena village since Wednesday afternoon. The operation involves personnel from multiple police stations, led by Sadar Hindon SHO Girraj Jatav. Investigators said they suspected the cannon to have been buried in the area and were raiding locations where recent excavations were carried out Excavation is underway at several suspected sites using JCB machines. Karauli DSP Munesh Meena said that a metal detector team has also been brought in from Bharatpur to scan the area with in an effort to locate the cannon. The presence of police teams from two states has drawn considerable attention among local residents, with the operation continuing for a second day. The Scindia-era cannon was stolen late on July 15. Police said around 30 armed and masked men entered the fort through a difficult approach route with a loading vehicle. They allegedly held security personnel at gunpoint before stealing the cannon. The theft triggered a major investigation involving both the archaeological department and the police.
